This corner of trendy Camden changes quite regularly throughout the year where Hawley Street and its lane are a fantastic spot for new street art to appear in the London town.
It’s always special catching an artist at work and here French artist Zabou was putting the finishing touches to her latest piece.
Since being based in London from 2012, Zabou has painted throughout the capital many times – and has decided to paint a portrait of a skinhead girl in Camden.
She has taken inspiration from a photo taken by renowned photographer Derek Rigders – which he originally took in Leicester Square back in 1981 of a skinhead called ‘Donna’
“I thought they were the most photogenic youth cult of all. Among them were some undeniably beautiful and memorable faces, some of the best faces I’ve ever photographed.” – Derek Ridgers
Almost purely monochrome with only a few electric blue touches in the background – this was already looking stunning.
“My works are striking, sometimes humourous and thought-provoking, set to elicit a range of emotions upon viewing.” Zabou
The main detailing to the face was complete but next was to add a few badges to the punk girl’s attire.
Those badges were now complete sporting ‘peace’ and ‘anarchy’ logos.
And lastly a few more blue tinged drips were added to give a more rebellious feel to the piece.
