This Monday morning, Cardiff residents woke up to a bleaker city as Cardiff Contemporary has sadly run its course. The citywide arts festival has brightened up our streets over the past month, bringing us controversy, beauty and a meteor. But most importantly, the festival provided a fresh perspective on Cardiff’s cityscape and proved that urban environments – usually thought of as stale concrete jungles – can give a platform to creativity.
Cardiff Contemporary this year was themed Reveal/Conceal; the idea behind the festival being an unveiling of art in this city. This message is incredibly important in broadening public awareness of the arts and the benefits of involvement in them. It also speaks to a much larger international issue surrounding the art sphere.
