A building on Cowbridge Road East had recently been painted totally black with what looks like yet another food establishment setting up shop replacing Bar Sicilia.
There wasn’t much clue as to what type of food place this would be with the mysterious WIWO sign not helping outside. (Surely it stands for Week In Week Out?)
So it was great to walk past one morning to see that a giant character had appeared on the side of the takeaway – it still didn’t give any nod to what type of food this place would be serving.
Above you can see some feint grid marks for where the artist was going to expand the design from the head of this giant Godzilla type creature.
A few days later and the creature had grown a body and expanded to fill up this black canvas a bit more.
Later again and a container box appeared at the grasps of the creature containing what looked like noodles – mystery solved and a quick search on Mr Google revealed that it was going to be a Wok In Wok Out takeaway.
It was now apparent that Rmer was the artist and he had been commissioned by the takeaway to complete it before they opened in the middle of November.
The final work totally transformed the wall and really brought attention to passers by (and the takeaway.)
The only bit of strong colour added was to the WIWO logo on the noodle box and a small hash tag to the left (you can still see the first attempt if you look closely enough! 😉 )
