Heading towards Hoxton and slightly off the main street is a back passage called Blackall Street.
It’s essentially a back lane with all the buildings backing onto it hence creating a large canvas up both sides of the ‘street’
On each visit it seems to be a favourite for the numerous ‘street art tours’ that operate in the area. It was quite interesting to overhear what was being said to the people hanging on every word and busily snapping away at pieces that the host was pointing out. One group was as big as 30 people – so there must be a lot of money to be made in this business!
Artists from all around the world pay a visit here to leave their latest paste-up, stickers and stencils.
One artist who is quite prolific in these parts is Mr Fahrenheit who posts images of celebrities but constructed in such a way that at normal distance you probably won’t be able to see the actual face until you stand at a certain distance away. You may also see a tag he quite often uses ‘UR SO PORNO BABY’
Can you spot a Sean Connery and James Brown amongst his work above?
There were loads of other paste-ups from a variety of artists including one in response to the large number of street art tours that operate in the area!
More and more paste-up get added on a regular basis creating this wonderful effect on the walls.
For some reason this area has been (unofficially) designated a place where paste-ups are quite happily put up but big tagging and graffiti work isn’t that apparent – the only sort of aerosol and paint work here is from Sweet Toof, Rowdy and Run.
So it’s well worth a visit to see the range of latest paste-ups and see how artist’s styles are developing and interacting with each other.
