A short walk from London’s Brick Lane and off the beaten tracks – to – under the tracks. A concrete subway leads you to some derelict land sandwiched between two railway lines.
Security fencing has been compromised and the area has become a target for graffiti artists (not street artists!) to decorate the surroundings with their names and tags.
A huge vacant brick tunnel stands all alone at one end of the area which doesn’t really seem to serve any purpose any longer apart from being a fantastic canvas to display some graffiti on.
This seemed an ideal location for a local rapper to take part in filming some shots for his latest urban video – never found out for which track it was!
The video below features photos taken of the site by Joe Epstein over a two year period (2010 – 2012) and illustrates the battle between graffiti artists and Network Rail – having to constantly remove the graffiti.
From a distance the first thing you see is the huge ‘TYPE’ tag across the whole structure but on closer inspection there are loads more tags and some carrot characters by Nemo.
A walk through the tunnel reveals more artwork and tags by a variety of graffiti artists which seem to have come here from around the World!
