Phlegm in Shoreditch

On my graffiti trawl of Shoreditch, London a local artist recommended I take a visit up a certain road to discover the latest work by Phlegm. I was totally unaware of what to expect from ‘Phlegm’ but the local artist did seem quite excited just telling me about this piece.

Walking down Heneage Street and there was nothing apparent – I almost felt I was sent on a wild goose chase but alas at the very end on the wall facing away from Brick Lane I found the recommended mural gracing the urban landscape.

Sheffield-based Phlegm painted one of the largest walls in London in conjunction with Global Street Art and took him three days to create. It’s such a large wall that it’s extremely difficult to capture the piece in one photo but here I attempted it!

There is just so much to see and take in on this huge piece. I quite like the way the artist has used the structure of the building to actually create realistic 3-d buildings which looks different from every angle.

Phlegm was born in North Wales (see talent can come out of Wales) but now resides in Sheffield where he creates his murals and illustrations described by one website as:-

“sinister, nightmarish feel, with ill-proportioned, other-worldly figures operating complicated machinery – enough to give anyone the heebie jeebies.”

He also operates his own blog where he showcases his own work, prints and comic that he is working on.

You can see Phlegm in action creating a piece up in Sheffield. It’s totally amazing to see how such large images are created and what a craft and skill it is!
