Paste-up by Jacob’s Market

Approaching the railway bridge that crosses over the top end of St Mary Street, near Jacobs Market and East and West Canal Wharf, and something caught my attention on the wall.

I couldn’t exactly see what it was at a distance but as I got nearer I could see that there was some elaborate paste-up on the metalwork securing the archway underneath the bridge.

On closer inspection it was an almost Egyptian design with two people sharing a drink in old style goblets – all hand drawn on some newspaper! Does anyone know anything else about it’s origin or meaning?
